The following improvisation/composition method adheres to principles of classical jazz harmony while accessing a broad harmonic perspective. More than an isolated chord progression or map of a single key, it is harmony based on the circle of 5ths in motion.    Knowledge of music theory or the ability to read music are UNNECESSARY to improvise with this system. The chordal style described is free improvisation in nature, like many instrumental breaks in modern music or in free form acoustic jazz. It is jazz that emphasizes the part of jazz harmony that distinguishes itself from conventional harmony.

Basic instructions facilitate IMPROVISATION WITH POLY-CHORDS, CHORD SUBSTITUTION, CIRCLES OF 5ths, LINE PROGRESSIONS, & MELODIC POTENTIAL. Suggested chord options can be organized as cadences for composition outlining a harmonic path or 'network' through the fret board. It can be an aid to composition for intermediate guitarists. Questions, comments, criticisms? Contact author [email protected]. Meter & Key Changes occur often so please understand that this improvisation will not resemble big band, ragtime, or dixie style jazz.
